The Art and the Science
The installation of stone, whether man-made or natural, requires a touch of science, a pinch of art and a peck of experience. P&W Stone offers its clients all of these ingredients and as a result produces excellent results.

Stone installation requires proper surface preparation prior to the application of any stone. If a concrete foundation the surface must be clean and to insure a properly prepared wall we pressure wash the surface prior to installation. If the job is being done on framed surfaces then a vapor barrier and properly secured metal lathing must be installed. And depending on the type of rock a scratch coat of mortar may be necessary before the stone can be applied.

After the stone is on the wall the next key step is the application of grout in the spaces left between each rock. The proper application and finishing of the grout lines can't be rushed. Starting the pointing (finishing) of the grout is determined in part by the weather and the mix of the mortar. Adjustments can be made to compensate but bottom-line the finishing can't be rushed and the mason must take the time necessary to achieve a clean and finished result.
