Natural Stone
We carry a variety of stand-up flagstone as well as irregular shaped black Buckingham slate. Generally the flagstone and slate used in these applications are large pieces ideal for use in patios and walk-ways. Our flagstone comes in lilac, multi-color, blue, green and tan. We also offer granite and quartzite flagging stone, again coming in a variety of colors. All of the low cleft veneer stone shown on other pages can also be used for patios and walk-ways. We also carry random sized Buckingham sawn slate as well as the multi-colored sawn flagstone, both of which are excellent choices for both interior and exterior walk-way or foyer applications.

Custom Cut Stair Treads, Hearth Stone and Mantles

We can have treads, hearths and mantles custom cut at the quarry from bluestone, limestone and sandstone. Whether cut as a single piece or several jointed pieces a natural stone hearth and/or mantle really sets off a fireplace, either man-made or natural.

We can have treads custom cut to most any length and thickness. Treads can be sawn or natural and when sawn the edges can be either rock faced or thermaled to give a more natural look and feel. All treads will come a minimum of 1 ½ inches thick and most are 2 inches in thickness.

We can also provide treads that are cut such that the stone serves as both tread and riser; however, each piece is very heavy and will be priced accordingly. Treads can be cut from granite, quartzite, limestone and bluestone.

Flagstone Installation

Flagstone can be installed on natural surfaces where no previous walk surface existed or on top of concrete. When installing on pre-existing concrete adjustments will have to be made in final grading due to the increased height of the finished product.

Our preferred method of installation is on a prepared under-layment of crusher/run and sand. Thickness of both sub-surface materials depend on use - whether pedestrian or vehicular. Stone, whether sawn or irregular, is embedded in the sand and then tamped into place. Sand is then swept into the areas between the stones. The entire surface is then left for several weeks for the sand to settle. Once settled we will return and sweep polymeric sand into the grout lines.

This sand offers a bonded surface that hardens to the point of keeping insects out and weeds from popping through. The polymeric sand will expand and contract so cracks are minimized. The sand comes in several different colors to compliment the color of the patio or walk-way.
